Wilfrid “Wil” Rumble is a justice warrior. During his 30-year career, almost exclusively as a Deputy Public Defender in San Diego, California, Wil tried more than 130 cases, including 20 murder trials, two of which were co-chaired, Death Penalty trials. One of those two resulted in a life verdict after 17 minutes of jury deliberation. Wil also tried a great number, and wide variety, of serious felony cases. Wil filed numerous appellate briefs in the California Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division One, and successfully litigated writ petitions in the same court.
Upon his retirement in 2023, the Criminal Defense Bar Association of San Diego honored Wil with the “Warhorse Award” for his “inspiring, tireless and zealous criminal defense advocacy” and “steadfast loyalty to the principles of civil liberty, justice, and equality.” Four years earlier, the San Diego North County Bar Association presented Wil the William Fletcher Award for “[p]roviding criminal defense to indigents in a manner which exemplifies the highest standards of civility, integrity, and professionalism.”
